Pulwama, Mar 31: One of the two Pulwama youths who were shot at and injured by the Army troops after they allegedly jumped a check-post is battling for life in a Srinagar hospital.

As per reports, on Saturday evening Army troops had laid a check-post at Bandzoo area of district after a grenade was lobbed at the CRPF bunker at SBI Pulwama.

Shahid Farooq Bhat, resident of Prichoo Pulwama, along with his two other friends while travelling on motorcycle on Shopian-Pulwama road  were signaled by the troops to stop at the check-post near Bandzoo village. “But they reportedly jumped the check-post following which army fired on them which resulted in injuries of two boys, including Bhat,” reports said

Shahid, a Class 11th student, was brought to SMHS hospital in Srinagar in critical condition where one of his kidneys had to be removed as it was hit by a bullet, his uncle Mohammad Ismail said. He said that Shahid has been put on life support as his condition continues to remain critical.

Throughout the day yesterday, Shahid was helping masons at their under-construction house, and left home only in the evening. Just before the incident, he was even playing with his friends at the stadium, his uncle recalled.

The other boy — Aqib Ahad Dar – a resident of Ashmander village, had received bullet injuries on his thigh and is now stable, Mohammad Ismail said.

Authorities at SMHS Hospital confirmed that Shahid’s condition is still critical.
