Kumar visits SMGS hospital, reviews functioning of Pediatrics & ENT department

JAMMU, MARCH 16: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar today reviewed the functioning of Pediatrics and ENT Department established at SMGS Hospital at a meeting convened with the Head of these departments, hospital administration and senior officers of health department.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on academic activities, OPD operations, existing manpower, steps need to be taken for overall development of the departments and up-gradation of the facilities for improved medi-care services to the people.

Principal GMC Dr Sunanda Raina, Managing Director JKMSC Shiv Gupta, Additional Secretary Health Ghulam Rasool Mir, HoD Pediatrics department Dr G S Saini, HoD ENT department Dr. Parmod Kalsotra, MS SMGS Dr Manoj Chalotra, other senior doctors attended the meeting.

Dr G S Saini, Head of Pediatrics department while making a detailed presentation regarding working of his department informed the meeting about the existing staff strength and infrastructure which is available in the department.

He requested the Advisor for his intervention in filling up the vacant posts of faculty and other doctors for smooth functioning of the department. With regard to up-gradation of infrastructure, he proposed creation of Perinatology Unit along with details of manpower and equipments required for it, MRI facility, establishment of dialysis unit in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), strengthening of PICU, creation of Pediatric Haemotology Oncology Ward, renovation of wards etc.

HoD ENT department also briefed the meeting about requirements and action plan for further strengthening the department. He made few points highlighting the basic requirements with a view to up-grade the facilities that includes renovation of operation theatres on modular concept, creation of emergency OT, creation of recovery ward/HDU, renovation of ENT ward, fully equipped dressing room, creation of Audiology Section, creation of Neuro-Otology Lab, Temporal Bone Lab, separate cancer ward, ICU for critical patients, Surgical Skill Lab and procurement of equipments needed at the department.

While addressing the meeting, the Advisor assured every possible support from the government in up-grading the health institutions by way of providing required man power and infrastructure. He asked the senior officers from Health department to look into the issue of filling up of vacant posts so that eligible people be posted at the departments.

He also asked for looking into the possibilities of taking support from NHM in providing funds for up-gradation of infrastructure required for strengthening these important disciplines.

With regard to requirement of equipments and instruments as highlighted in the meeting, the Advisor asked MD JKMSC to procure the same as per the demand after following due process of quality certification.

The Advisor also stressed for sending faculty and other staff to the other premiere institutes in the country to learn new things happening in their respective fields through a proper faculty exchange programme. Faculty from other institutes should be also invited here to exchange their ideas with our doctors, he added.

Later, the Advisor took round of various wards, operation theatres and other facilities of both the departments. While his visit to the wards, he asked the hospital administration to ensure hygiene, cleanliness and provision of clean bed sheets for the patients admitted there.

He asked the doctors also to personally monitor these things and inform the administration about any changes to be made with regard to hygiene and cleanliness in the hospital.
