Parrikar’s health had been fluctuating for several days and worsened on Saturday morning. The former Defence minister had been in and out of hospital in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and New York since February last year.

The four-time chief minister had said in January that he “will serve Goa till my last breath.” Parrikar, in recent months, had made public appearances with a tube in his nose, looking frail.

Governor Satya Pal Malik while expressing grief over the untimely demise of Parrikar, described him as a widely respected public figure and an able administrator whose service to the country will always be remembered.

Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family members.
