Rehabilitation of children in distress: Govt depts asked to coordinate with DLSA

JAMMU, MARCH 13: Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, Vinod Chatterji Koul, today chaired a meeting to discuss modalities for striking co-ordination with  various government agencies for working with District Legal Services Authority  as a single unit.

The meeting was attended by Naushad Ahmed Khan, Senior Civil Judge, cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, Ms. Shalini Sharma, Chairman, CWC, Jammu, Dr. Anupa Sharma, Protection Officer, Dr Chestha Sharma. member JJB Jammu,  Amritpal Singh, SP North,  Aashish Rathore, Chief Prosecuting Officer, Jammu, Meyank Gupta, Pr. Magistrate, JJB, along with representatives from Education and Excise Department.

The meeting stressed on for attaining desired goals set for various government Department with respect to victims of POCSO, drug abuse (Children) and abandoned mentally ill. For this, the Excise Department was asked to provide District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, professional counselors, establishment of rehabilitation centre, mobile van for on spot counseling besides identifying the target areas and localities where drug abuse is common.

The Education department was asked to provide tutors, music teachers, dance teachers to be deputed in CCIs, besides providing reading library. The police department was directed to produce POCSO victims to child welfare committee, to report POCSO cases to Child Welfare Committee with a copy of FIR/Medical/statement u/s 164-A. “Police department shall report mission/found children to Child Welfare Committee. The department shall also summon/notice of appearance before CWC in the cases of non compliance of the orders of CWS” the meeting directed.

The District Legal Services Authority, Jammu, besides providing schemes for children and Women to be shared with CWC, shall also depute Para Legal Volunteers on requirement, the meeting decided.

It was further decided that DLSA will set up Free Legal Aid Clinic on every Wednesday, in the offices of CWC & JJB for providing Free Legal Aid/Legal Assistance, besides providing compensation to the POCSO victims. District Legal Services Authority, Jammu shall also sensitize and aware the masses about the POCSO and ill effects of illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse among the masses with the vital support Education Department, Police Department, and Excise Department.
