DDC Shopian reviews traffic management measures

SHOPIAN, MARCH 12: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Dr Owais Ahmed today convened a meeting to review measures being taken for better traffic management in the district here Arhama Shopian.

During meeting, various ways and means were discussed to decongest the Shopian town and ensure hassle-free traffic movement in the district. It was decided that the traffic personnel will not allow any heavy vehicle or loaded trucks to enter the jurisdictions of town from 9 am to 5 pm, whereas load carriers, passenger vehicles and other means of transportations will be shifted from main market to identified parking places.

The DDC stressed on the need to enforce efficient route plan and said that the traffic management is of foremost concern and every effort is being put to resolve all issues related to it and provide efficient transport facility to the public. He instructed upon concerned officers to take strict action against people who are parking their vehicles at wrong places, so that the problem of unauthorized parking is brought to an end. The Executive Officer Municipality Committee Shopian was directed to remove encroachments and unauthorized street vendors from inner roads and other busy places of the town which are major hurdles in regulating the vehicular traffic.

DDC sought cooperation from transport operators and traders and appealed them to work in tandem with District Administration to achieve the desired result.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Tehsildar Shopian, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Shopian, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, President Sumo Stand and other concerned.
