He said more than financing, the administration requires stakeholdership from banks. He said the latter will help create and inculcate a sense of community involvement which is an important factor in ensuring success of this important initiative.

Dr Shah said support of banks will be required at various stages of the Smart City project and called on the banks to join hands with the Srinagar administration in efforts to make the project a reality.

The banks were asked to propose how and where they can contribute after which they will be allotted responsibilities.

Green Srinagar Initiative is an ambitious greening initiative under which 50 thousand Chinar saplings will be planted in institutional areas, avenues and individual households in addition to some 1 lac saplings to be planted by the Forest and the Social Forestry departments. Plants exposed to public or vehicular movements will also be tree-guarded under the initiative.

The project and a mobile application to register for availing saplings under it will be launched next week.

ADC KK Sidha and Joint Director Planning Mohammad Yaseen were also present in the meeting.

Srinagar Smart City Limited officials also attended the meeting.
