Army pays compensation to deceased porter’s family

Srinagar: Army has paid compensation to the family of a porter who was killed by a wild animal in June.

Giving details, a defense spokesman said that (Late) Abdul Hameed (Token no M 390) S/o Ilam Din, resident of Village Dardkot, Uri, District Baramulla, was employed as porter with Khuda Ke Bande Battalion.

“On 23 Jun 2018, Abdul Hameed succumbed to the injuries sustained on account of an attack by a wild animal while travelling between Changez and Dardkot. This unfortunate incident caused an irreplaceable loss of the sole bread winner for his family,” the spokesman said.

He said that Khuda Ke Bande Battalion, considering him a part of their family put in all out efforts to get the due compensations released at the earliest. The Battalion facilitated timely completion of all investigations and documentation procedures.

“Accordingly, on 05 Mar 2019 the Battalion in recognition of his service rendered organised a solemn ceremony at Uri, where the compensation cheque for an amount of Rs 19,06,110 /- was handed over to Zarifa Begum, wife of the deceased. His dedication and contribution to the Army is a testimony in itself for others to emulate,” said the spokesman.
