Dir horticulture Kashmir visits Shopian, kick-starts plantation drive

SHOPIAN, MARCH 04: Director Horticulture Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat visited district Shopian and held meeting with officials of department there to take stock of works, and department nurseries.

During the visit, the Director visited horticulture nursery at Badamibagh, Batpora Shopian where he kick started the plantation drive for the year 2019 by planting a tree in the nursery. Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that district Shopian acts as a backbone of Kashmir economy due to its horticulture products.

The Director stressed the orchardists and Horticulture officials to make people aware about the high density apple brands so that more high density apple orchards are established. He also stressed on production of grafted walnuts in the region.

The Director Horticulture added that nurseries would be modified on modern and technical formats so that people can get benefited from them. He also advised the people/orchardists to get benefited from the department by availing the plants from horticulture department nurseries as well as from the government registered nurseries who were playing a vital role in import and export of horticulture products.

The Director said that people must remain in contact with horticulture experts for expert advice including spray schedule, fertilizers, irrigation, pruning and other purposes.

He was accompanied by various senior concerned officers from the department.
