Srinagar, Feb 21: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir has said that his country backs the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Kashmir and that India and Pakistan should hold talks to preserve the Kashmiri interests.

The top Saudi official made the remarks during an interview with ‘India Today’ in New Delhi where Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman was on a day-long visit to India.

“We have said there are UN resolutions with regard to Kashmir that Saudi Arabia supports,” Jubeir told senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai.

Al-Jubeir said that his country has always encouraged both India and Pakistan to sit at the negotiating table and resolve those issues amicably, in a way that preserves the interests of Kashmiri people, and, also the interests of India and Pakistan.

“We believe where there is goodwill and honest dialogue a resolution to this issue can be achieved,” he said.

When asked about the alleged involvement of Pakistan in cross-border attacks, Jubeir replied that he was not sure who was responsible. “I am not aware of that,” he said.

Saudi Arabia has maintained that the country would take all measure to de-escalate tensions between nuclear armed India and Pakistan.
