Cleric, father-in-law allegedly thrashed by army

Shopian, Feb 16: A cleric and his father-in-law were hospitalised after the government forces allegedly thrashed them at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Mufti Sheeraz Ahmad and his father-in-law Mohammad Ahsan were allegedly thrashed by army early morning in Wathoo village of the district.

“Soldiers barged in my home at around 4 am and started thrashing me and my son-in-law mercilessly with cans and gun butts,” alleged Ahsan.

The duo was later rushed to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment.

Police said they were looking into the matter.
