Srinagar: While the Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to prepone announcement for Lok Sabha polls, it now seems unlikely that the elections for the J&K Assembly will be held along with general elections.

Election Commission of India is likely to prepone announcement for Lok Sabha elections 2019 as it has modified its earlier notification of Jan 19 wherein state governments were asked to complete the process of transfers and postings before Feb 28, 2019.

In a fresh notification, the ECI has asked the state governments to make the requisite transfers and postings by Feb 20 and to send compliance report latest by Feb 25.

The ECI notification has been issued to all the states for the General Lok Sabha election and elections to state legislative assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Idisha and Sikkim.

As there is no mention of J&K’s assembly elections, it seems that these may not be held alongwith Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the fresh notification, J&K is to witnesses massive transfers and postings in coming days.

The officers, affiliated with election process, and posted in their home districts are to be transferred and also those who have completed three years in a particular district.
