‘Streetlight issue’ stalls development works in Sopore Town

Sopore, January 27: President Municipal Council (MC) Sopore has alleged that one of the independent ward members of the Council is creating hurdles in execution of approved works in Sopore Town.

Talking to ‘Kashmir Images’ President MC Sopore, Abdul Ahad Malla said: “One of the ward members namely Syed Mohammad Ayoub who represents Arampora ward in Sopore is creating hurdles in execution of approved works of MC Sopore.”

“Recently, MC Sopore received a quota of 108 streetlights and each ward member was allotted five streetlights for his/ her respective wards but ward member Syed Mohammad Ayoub compelled the lineman, Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, of Municipal Council Sopore to install ten lights in his award,” added Malla.

Meanwhile, Executive Officer (EO)Municipal Council Sopore  has  issued an explanation, a copy of which lies with ‘Kashmir Images’, with regard to the complaint lodged by the Municipal Council Sopore “vide MC/SPR/19/7499-7503 Dated: 17-01-2019”.

Interestingly, the lineman of Municipal Council who was asked, according to the explanation letter,  to explain his position in three days on 17 January is yet to come up with an explanation.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Executive Officer (EO) Municipal Council Sopore, Abdul Lateef Mir, said: “I have asked my clerk to submit all the details related to street lights work so that I can check the progress of it.”

The EO while admitting that he has issued an explanation in the name of Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Lineman MC Sopore said that if the lineman fails to explain his position, we will approach higher ups for taking strict action against him. “I will not tolerate any kind of mismanagement by my employees,” Mir added.
