January 15: Police in Srinagar arrested a drug peddler during routine patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Nigeen and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said: “A police party of Police Station Nigeen arrested a drug peddler during routine patrolling of the area. The person was moving in suspicious conditions and tried to flee from the spot.”

“However, the police party apprehended him and upon his personal search, 120 grams of charas was recovered from his possession,” he said.

“Srinagar police registered a case FIR No 03/2019 under relevant sections of law and initiated investigations in the matter,” he added.

Meanwile, the statement further said: “Acting on specific information regarding the presence of lottery sellers in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kothibagh, Srinagar police arrested a lottery seller who was cheating common masses in Lalchowk area.”

“The arrested person was identified as Faizan Ahmed Dar son of Imtiyaz Ahmed Dar resident of Narkara Budgam. A Scooty bearing registration number JK04D/7678, a mobile phone used for online ticket booking with bookies and other relevant material was recovered and taken in possession accordingly,” reads the statement.

“A case FIR No 02/2019 under relevant section of law has been registered and initiated investigations in the matter,” it added.
