Shutdown continues in Tral, Awantipora

Srinagar, Jan 15: Shopian district in south Kashmir remained shut on fourth straight day Tuesday to mourn the killings of Al Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam and his aide in a gunfight with the government forces.

All shops and other commercial establishments remained closed in the district while only a skeletal movement of traffic was witnessed on the roads, reports said.

Islam and his aide Shakeel Ahmad were killed in an encounter with government forces in a brief shootout in Yaripora area of the neighbouring Kulgam district on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, Internet services also continued to remain suspended in Shopian district for fourth straight day. The service was suspended soon after the news of Islam’s killing started doing the rounds on Saturday evening.
