Sehrai castigates fresh plea against Article 370

Srinagar, January 15: Reacting on the filing of another plea in SC against Article 370, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, has said that such attempts were the handiwork of India for changing the demography of the state and termed it as a ‘well-thought-out ploy’ to tamper with the special status and Muslim majority character of Jammu and Kashmir.

A press release issued here said that ‘forces’ were working hard to sabotage the future referendum process in Jammu and Kashmir and were hatching conspiracies to achieve results that suit them. “Such moves were hatched to change the disputed nature of J&K and its Muslim majority character too,” Sehrai was quoted as saying by the press release.

Terming it a ploy of the ‘extremist’ elements, the press release further said that such attempts were made since 1947 to push Kashmir issue on the back burner and dilute its historical status and disputed character. “From Srinagar to New Delhi, efforts are being made to shift focus from Kashmir issue by portraying it away from its historical and ethical background,” Sehrai has said.
