“Our 60 kilowatt power transformer burnt a week ago and after repeated representations to PDD office Baramulla we got the transformer repaired but hours after it was installed it burnt again. It has been again a week now, nobody has bothered to lift the transformer despite repeated calls to concerned linemen and Junior Engineer PDD,” said Mohmmad Younis of Hakhpathri Zehanpora Uri.

“It has been almost three weeks now we are without electricity as PDD department didn’t repair the transformer due to which poor and tribal people of this remote village suffer badly in this harsh winter,” he added.

The residents alleged that the workshops of PDD have become den of corruption because the technicians replace parts of electric transformers. ‘Our transformer was in good condition but they provided us the dead one,” they alleged.

When contacted Executive Engineer PDD Baramulla, Nazir Ahmed Malik told Kashmir Images on phone that department has been trying its level best to repair the damaged transformers but in winters due to overload, transformers get burnt again and again.

“During winters the transformers get overloaded and they often burn or get damaged. I will get the transformer repaired within two days,” he added.
