Srinagar, Jan 04: The Telegraph newspaper’s lead headline — ‘In Kashmir, we shoot them. In Kerala, we call them devotees,’—went viral in Kashmir with netizens sharing it widely on social media platforms.

The headline by the English Daily published from eastern state of Paschim Banga compared the response of the police and government forces to protesters in Kashmir and southern Kerala.

Kerala is on boil since the Supreme Court ruled last year ruled that women devotees can visit Sabrimala temple in the state.

‘The Telegraph’ ran a lead story about the protests that are taking place in Kerala with the activists of Sangh Parivar trying to enforce a shutdown.

The story began with the direct attack on Sangh-Parivar against their hooliganism in the state over the entry of women in Sabrimala temple.

“Raw hooliganism aimed at subverting the law and blackmailing the judicial process erupted in several places in Kerala on Thursday in the name of a Sangh Parivar-sponsored shutdown to protest the entry of two women of childbearing age into the Sabarimala temple,” the report said.

“The protest and the resultant clashes led to at least one death and widespread destruction of property. At one point, the potential of the protest to threaten the social fabric of the progressive state was also on display,” The Telegraph reported in its Friday edition.

The story was also shared on social networking websites by India’s prominent journalists and political leaders besides people from Kashmir.

According to The Telegraph’s report, the Sangh-Parivar sponsored protests were violent and the protestors were throwing stones at the police.
