Pulwama, Jan 01: As the Kashmir tragedy seems ending nowhere, the Valley once regarded as “paradise on earth” witnessed another violent death on the first very day of New Year, 2019.
A Special Police Officer (SPO) was shot dead by suspected militants in Hanjan Payeen village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday evening.
Confirming the incident a police official said that militants fired upon the SPO near his home at Hanjan Payeen village at around 7:45 pm.
The SPO, identified as Sameer Ahmad Mir son of Wali Mohd Mir, was critically injured and was rushed to a hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries and lost the battle for life.
The police had lodged a case in this regard, the official said.
.This is the same village where encounter between government forces and militants took place on 29 December , 2018 in which four jaish-e-Muhammad militants were killed and one house was raised to the ground.
