Fisheries dept provides financial assistance to farmers under Blue Revolution scheme

BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 29: The Department of Fisheries, Baramulla today provided financial assistance to fishermen under Blue Revolution scheme at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla.

The programme was attended by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Director Planning A.G. Malik, Assistant Director Fisheries, Baramulla Abdul Ahad, besides other concerned and fishermen.

The assistance was provided after conducted a draw of lots for Trout and Carp unitholders. Out of the total 20 fishermen, two were selected on the spot. The Trout unit holder was provided financial assistance of Rs. 1.60 lakh, while as the Carp unitholder received financial assistance of Rs 45000.

It was given out that the Blue Revolution Scheme aims at enhancing the fish production and get the maximum outcome.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the importance of the Fisheries sector in the economic development of the society, saying that the need of the hour is to preserve water bodies available with us. He urged unemployed youth to adopt the schemes of the Fisheries Department as an employment avenue for their sustainable livelihood.

Earlier, the Assistant Director Fisheries explained the features of the scheme, besides the achievements made by the department. He said 1158 Fishermen are presently registered with the department who are being provided incentives from various schemes launched by the government. He said that awareness camps are being conducted by the department to educate people about the significance of Fish production.
