Khelo India: Thrilling competitions mark first day of inter-block tournament at Samba

SAMBA DECEMBER 14: Under the aegis of Khelo-India, Sports for peace and development, thrilling matches in Volleyball, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho, Badminton and Wrestling were witnessed on the first day of inter-block tournament here at Sports Stadium Samba.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Faisal Qureshi was the chief guest for today.    Addressing the players, he said Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in   India at the grass-roots level by building a strong framework for all sports played in the country and establish India as a great sporting nation .

On the first day, 112 players took part in volleyball events, 128 in kabbadi events, 130 in kho-kho, 24 in badminton and 42   exhibited their talent in wrestling.

In badminton under 17 years age category final event, Sahdev Singh defeated Hikal Sharma while Hitesh Khajuria thrashed Rohit Sharma in under 20 age category.

In wrestling under 17 age category final event, Arjun Sharma defeated Faisal Hussain in 67-72kg, Younis Khan defeated Partap Singh in 61-66kg, Vicky Kumar defeated Vikram in 73-80kg while Shahid Omar thrashed Sahil Chowdhary in 55-60kg event.
