Budgam, Dec 12: The family members of a woman who delivered a stillborn baby at Lal Ded (LD) hospital Srinagar blamed doctors of Aga Syed Yousuf Memorial (ASYM) district hospital for the death of a newborn.

Feroz Ahmad, a resident of Budgam township told Kashmir Images that after his wife developed labour pain on Monday afternoon, she was taken to hospital here. He said that doctors asked them to go home after examining his wife.

“Doctors also said expected date has not come and visit LD tomorrow for a check-up,” Ahmad added. “In the night, my wife again experienced excruciating pain and we took her to LD where she gave birth to a stillborn baby after a caesarean section.”

Accusing concerned ASYM doctors for taking  life of newborn, the family members said that “negligence” of doctors at Budgam hospital led to death of their baby.

“Had doctors at Budgam asked us to visit LD on the same day, we would have gone there, instead we were sent to home,” they added.

When contacted Medical Superintendent ASYM hospital Dr Debra said: “I will look into it tomorrow.”

Hospital officials said that pregnant woman often face problems at hospital as “the Gynaecology section is not well developed here”.

It is pertinent to mention that Kashmir Images had earlier reported that Budgam hospital has referred highest number of patients to LD as compared to other nine districts of the Valley.

This newspaper had carried a story with headline “In maternity referrals, Budgam tops the list” after which according to officials and locals, no steps were initiated to strengthen the Gynaecology section of the hospital.

They blamed hospital and district administration and former political representatives for turning a blind eye towards the issues pertaining to the district hospital.
