Srinagar, Dec 10: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday asserted that people of the state stand disappointed towards alliance politics and are seeking a strong government which can advance the cause of development.

Party’s Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi while addressing functionaries on World Human Rights Day at party headquarters Nawa-e-Subh Srinagar said that human rights are important to realize the full potential of people. “Human welfare is defined not only in terms of freedom from hunger and poverty but also respect for individual dignity, sound governance, and accountability,” he said.

Ruhullah said the mandate of 2014 state elections was desecrated upon by the PDP-BJP alliance and that nothing tangible was achieved in terms of development. “I don’t know of any sector that received a positive impetus during the PDP-BJP rule. The former regime miserably failed to provide an inclusive, accountable government,” he said.

He added that the need of hour is to invest in the collaborative efforts of democracy, human rights and good governance. “The core of our party ideology is to invest in the human development. History bears testimony to how Sher-e-Kashmir worked for the emancipation of poor and the downtrodden. Ours is the only party that possesses a panacea for states political and development needs,” he said.

He said that the Kashmiri people are not gullible and that the wrongs of the former BJP-PDP regime have become part of people’s explicit memories. “Our state which has been accorded with special provisions ratified by the country’s constitution saw an onslaught of attacks from all sides. The RSS and its paid stooges are still contriving to harm the special status under the fig leaf of ‘change’. The previous years saw the plethora of attacks on the autonomy of our institutions. Whether it was the implementation of the SARFAESI Act, the GST or the statistical bill to the state, it was done with a malicious intent of infringing upon the state’s financial autonomy. Even today efforts are being made to further put at peril the autonomous character of our institutions,” he said.

The chief spokesperson said it is the National Conference that has been debunking the machinations of those who are inimical to our state’s identity and its unity. “We will continue to put up a strong front against those who aim at destroying the state’s secular character. Our leadership has always upheld the torch of communal camaraderie. We will advance the cause of amity and brotherhood,” he said.

He said that people have already made their mind for a government that has a strong mandate to carry forward the cause of development, establishing rule of law and advancing peace in the state. “If I just talk of heath sector, 200 health institutions of various categories were set up during Omar Abdullah led government. 200 bed OPD block at Lal Ded hospital, 11 mobile units were deployed at 11 districts during that time alone,” he said.
