Srinagar: Sajad Lone headed Peoples Conference has got a shot in the arm in its, otherwise, strong bastion of Kupwara, as Peoples Democratic Party leader Irfan Panditpuri joined the party.

Welcoming Irfan Panditpuri into the party fold, Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday said winds of change were sweeping across the state and his party has emerged as a strong political alternative to the existing political parties.

A spokesman of the party said Irfan joined the party in presence of Sajad Gani Lone, senior party leader Imran Reza Ansari and district president Kupwara Mir Hafizullah.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajad Gani Lone said PC has emerged as alternative to the existing political culture which is based on “nepotism, corruption and the political oppression.”

” Kashmiris have been deprived of the right to dream of a better future by our traditional political parties as the dreams of the common-man – those of dignity, prosperity and progress – were detrimental to the manipulative political system these parties represent,” Lone said.

“It is time for a Kashmiris to dream beyond the political and economic limits designed and enforced by NC and PDP.”

On the occasion, Imran Reza Ansari hailed the contribution of Irfan’s father Muhammad Sultan Panditpuri for welfare of the people in Langate.

“Muhammad Sultan Panditpuri worked for downtrodden and deprived sections of the society throughout his life,” he said.

Former MLA Abid Ansari quits PDP

Srinagar, Dec 08: Former PDP MLA Abid Ansari Saturday quit the party, alleging that it “failed” the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said he did not want to be a part of the “lies and deception being perpetuated” by the party.

“I hereby announce my resignation from @jkpdp as the party has failed the people of J&K on all fronts. I don’t want to be a part of the lies and deception being perpetuated by the party. Hv sent a detailed letter of resignation to @MehboobaMufti. Will soon interact with the media (sic),” Ansari wrote on Twitter.

Ansari, uncle of influential Shia leader Imran Ansari, represented Zadibal constituency of Srinagar in the State Assembly. The Assembly was dissolved by Governor S P Malik last month.

The two had distanced themselves from the party in July after the PDP-led government in the state fell when the BJP decided to pull out of the alliance.

Imran also resigned from the PDP last month and joined the People’s Conference (PC).
