Governor celebrates Armed Forces Flag Day

JAMMU, DECEMBER 7: Governor Satya Pal Malik celebrated the Armed Forces Flag Day at a function held at the Raj Bhavan here today. Brig. (Retd.) Harcharan Singh, Director, Rajya Sainik Board pinned a  token Flag on the self of Governor on the occasion. The Governor made contribution towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

The Governor observed that the Armed Forces Flag Day is an important occasion for remembering the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for protecting the territorial integrity of the nation. He lauded the crucial role of the Armed Forces, both during war and in peace time, and observed that their sacrifices were founded in their bravery, devotion and dedication.

Brig. (Retd.) Harcharan Singh, Director, Rajya Sainik Board;  Brig. M.M. Harjai, CAO Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana  Superspeciality Hospital,  Kakryal; Honorary Capt. Sardar Bana Singh, PVC; Hav. Rashid Ahmad (Retd.) SM; were among the distinguished guests present on the occasion.

The Director RSB apprised Governor about various initiatives launched by the Board for ensuring welfare of the war widows and of the families of ex-Servicemen and serving armed forces personnel. He informed that besides various fund raising activities on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, varied competitions have been organized for school going children including painting,  Quiz, Essay writing, Patriotic song singing etc.

The Governor advised Brig. (Retd.) Harcharan Singh to vigorously campaign in the government and private institutions for collecting contributions for the Flag Day Fund  throughout the year so that a large corpus could be generated for carrying out welfare activities for the ex-Servicemen and their families.
