Sopore, Dec 01: Out of 3027 votes, 49 were polled for the Sixth phase of Panchayat Elections in the six-hour long polling which began at 8 am and ended at 2 pm, an official said.

According to official, 49 votes were cast out of 3027 in North Kashmir’s Sopore block in the sixth phase of panchayat elections with 1.62 %age.

Official said that in Sopore block, election was held only in Seelu village while as other areas witnessed no election in the sixth phase of panchayat elections.

5 Sarpanchs and 6 Panchs were elected unopposed.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements were made around the polling station in Seelu to ensure safety of voters and polling staff.

It was for the first time that authorities did not throttle internet services in Sopore town in view of elections.

“As experienced earlier, last five phases in Sopore block witnessed peaceful elections which is why we had decided not to snap internet services in the area,” said a police official.

On JRL call, Spore town and its outskirts witnessed complete shutdown in view of panchayat elections.
