JK bags ‘Best Performing Large State’ award in Health category

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 22: – The Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu this evening presented the ‘Best Performing Large State’ award to J&K for impressive performance in Health sector.

The award was presented at ‘State of the States Conclave 2018’ organized by the India Today Group at Taj Hotel, New Delhi.

The award was received by Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education J&K, Atal Dulloo.

Speaking on the occasion, Atal Dulloo complimented the State’s Health Department officials for making possible this feat. He also highlighted the achievements of Health Department which includes improvement in Health indicators.

It was given out that Infant Mortality rate of J&K has declined by 10 points from 2014 to 2016 (34 to 24) while Total Fertility Rate has come down from 1.7 to 16 during the year 2016-17. Meanwhile, New Mortality Rate has also declined from 26 to 18 in 2016. Leprosy and Polio are near elimination in J&K.

J&K was ranked No: 1 across the country as the State was able to reduce 8 points under Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in a single year i.e 2014-2015.

Principal Secretary said that this is a proud moment for the state as our work is being acknowledged at the national and international forums. He added that Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana under Ayushman Bharat Programme is being launched in the state from 1 December 2018.

He further discussed the establishment of two premier Institutions i.e. AIIMS, two state Cancer Institutes, and laid stressed on strengthening of drug and food testing labs, implementation of Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme for seven district hospitals.

The Conclave was attended by the Chief Ministers of different States, Principal Resident Commissioners of various states and Chief Editors and senior Media personalities of India Today Group.
