“During checking, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from their possession which includes UBGL, grenades and live rounds and other incriminating material,” he said.

Spokesman identified the duo as Jan Mohammad Sheikh, son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh, resident of Kaweni Dugripora, and Nasir-ul-Islam, son of Shabir Ahmad Shah, resident of Panzgam.

“Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and preliminary investigation in the instant matter has revealed that the duo is affiliated with HM outfit. Further investigation in the instant matter is going on,” he said.

Police on Wednesday also said that the woman arrested with grenades on Srinagar outskirts yesterday was working with Hizbul Mujahideen.

A top police official said that the woman, identified as Asiya from Khunmoh area of Srinagar, was carrying a consignment of ammunition from Kupwara to Srinagar.

A local news agency quoted ADGP Law and Order, Munir Khan as saying that two over ground workers have also been arrested in connection with the case and that the police was trying to connect their links with the arrested woman.

“She is not the first woman arrested by the police (in a militancy-related case). Investigations are on. We are trying to connect missing links,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports said that the father of the woman was a Hizb militant who had died in a gunfight with the government forces on Boulevard road nearly two decades ago.

Police also said two militants were arrested today along with arms and ammunition in Poonch district.

Police sources said the duo was arrested during vehicle checking by a joint party of police and Rashtriya Rifles in Mendhar area of the district.

Two militants have been arrested from Poonch and two AK assault rifles and some ammunition were seized from them, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, S D Singh Jamwal was quoted as saying by PTI.

The IGP refused to give further details saying the interrogation of the arrested militants was underway.
