Army organizes cultural fest at Baba Reshi

Srinagar: A day long Cultural Fest ‘Mannat-e-Aman’ was organised on 10th November 2018 at Baba Reshi Shrine by Settle Light Production along with Waqf Board, Baba Reshi Market Association, Baba Reshi and Tangmarg Taxi Unions, Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Civil Administration and Security Forces. In this unique initiative, people from neighbouring areas of Baba Reshi joined hands with the Army to celebrate the heritage of syncretic traditions in Kashmir.

The Shrine of revered Sufi Saint Payam-ud-Din, popularly known as Baba Reshi, provided a perfect backdrop for the audience to immerse themselves in the spirit of pristine and pious sufi music, a statement issued by army said.

Qawwali and ghazals by noted artists, Shafi Sopori, Manzoor-ul-Haq, Muneer Ahmad Ganaie and Tariq Ahmad Bhat enthralled the audience while celebrating the spirit of humanity which defines the Kashmiriyat, said the statement.

The events included Naat, Tilawat, Seerat and Sufi songs performed by young and talented children of the neighbouring areas. Cultural events were interspersed with engaging discussions on Culture, Kashmiriyat and Sufism by prominent scholars.

Speaking on the event, Lieutenant General A K Bhatt, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps emphasised upon the rich culture and history of Kashmir while highlighting the hardwork, resilience and peaceful nature of Kashmiri people even in the face of adversities. He also took the opportunity to exhort the people, especially the youth, to channelise their energies towards building a prosperous future for the society.

Major General Gulab Singh Rawat, General Officer Commanding, Dagger Division, Atul Kumar, DIG North Kashmir and Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, DC Baramulla also attended the event along with various prominent personalities.
