In his presidential address Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad while speaking on the theme of the seminar said that the thought and philosophy of Iqbal is relevant for all times to come and more work needs to be done to make the young generation aware about his contribution and his universal vision which transcends all barriers of geography and language.

Assuring full administrative support to the institute so that more and more research is conducted on various dimensions of Iqbal`s thought which have not been discovered yet Prof Talat said “I am surely going to take up the issue of vacant positions in the institute and strengthen it in all respects so that more work is conducted on the philosophy of Alama Iqbal.”

He added “Engaging scholars from various disciplines and imbibing the model of Iqbal is the need of time to make this world a better place to live in.”

Former Director, Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, Prof. Bashir Nehvi in his key-note address urged everyone to read the anthology of Iqbal.

He said that Iqbal’s philosophical thought would remain relevant in the ages to come. “Iqbal had a fore-vision not only about the place where he lived but all his prophecies on east and west are coming crystallized in the present times,” Prof Nehvi shared.

Head Dept of Religious Studies, Central University of Kashmir and trustee of Shama Foundation, Prof Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi in his remarks spoke on the theme of the event, ‘position of women in Iqbalian thought’.

“Women have a central role to play in the development of any civilization and Iqbal gave the crux of the same development and how it would occur,” said Prof Rafiabadi.

Rafiabadi said that much was talked about mobilization of women in our society though there is a dearth of institutes that would take up the cause. “It is for the same reason of bringing into light the role of women in our society and to attend to their problems that Shama institute was founded,” Rafiabadi added.

Prof. Nehvi’s book, ‘Sarhad-i-idrak’ and ‘Difa-e-Iqbal’ of Prof. Rafiabadi were also released on the occasion.

Co-ordinator Iqbal Institute, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai moderated the event.
