Jammu/Kupwara: An Army porter was killed in Pakistani sniper fire along the Line of Control in Jammu district and a BSF jawan was injured in a separate incident in the Rajouri-Poonch sector, while as there was a brief echange of fire between the armies of the two countries in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district too.

The porter died in sniper fire from across the LoC in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district around 1800 hours Friday, officials told PTI.

In the Manajakote sector, Pakistani personnel targeted forward posts along the LoC around 0930 hours. A jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) was injured in the firing, they said.

The number of ceasefire violations this year by Pakistan has been the highest in the past eight years.

Meanwhile, the armies of India and Pakistan on Friday exchanged gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district, police said.

The Pakistani troops targeted Indian army posts at Amru, Sadpora and Dhani areas in Tangdhar today in the afternoon, officials said.

“The fire was retaliated effectively and strongly,” they added.

However, there was no report of any casualties on either side in the exchange of fire which was going on when last reports came.
