KULGAM, NOVEMBER 08: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Dr Shameem Ahmad Wani today conducted an extensive tour of Noorabad in Kulgam to take stock of the damage caused by recent snow spell to the orchards.

He directed the Horticulture Department to conduct grower-to-grower damage assessment across the district due to recent snow spell so that the affected growers can be compensated.

Emphasizing on the conduct of field visits, the DC directed the concerned to deploy field staff of Horticulture department along with Patwaris and Girdawars to prepare the damage assessment report and submit the same for early compensation to the affected growers.

The DC was accompanied by ACR, SDM Noorabad, Tehsildar D H Pora, Chief Horticulture Officer and other officers from allied departments.

The DDC directed the concerned and experts to assess the losses including future fruit-bearing capacity and age factors of partially damaged trees. He also stressed to provide technical assistance to the farmers.

During the inspection, various public and fruit growers deputations met the DC at various villages, and apprised him about damages to orchards and demanded to waive off their KCC loans.

The DC assured them that the damage assessment report would be submitted to the higher authorities for early compensation to the affected growers. He also directed the CHO to organise awareness camps in collaboration with KVK in all blocks of Kulgam.
