KARGIL, NOVEMBER 06: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan today visited Shaitan Nallah Gumri and took stock of the snow clearance work on the Kargil Srinagar Road in the aftermath of the recent untimely snowfall.

Executive Councillor for R&B Nasir Hussain Munshi, Sub Divisional Magistrate Drass Pawan Kotwal besides the officers of Civil, Police Administration, and Vijayak accompanied the CEC during the tour.

The CEC took brief from the officers about the snow clearance works presently in progress on the highway. The concerned officers informed the CEC that to restore traffic on the National Highway, Vijayak and Beacon authorities have started snow clearance work from both ends of Zojila pass and heavy snow cutter machines and dozers have been pressed into service for the snow clearance work. It was further informed that the highway is expected to be opened for vehicular traffic within 2 to 3 days’ time.

While hailing the efforts of the engineers and labourers engaged in the snow clearance works, the CEC urged upon them to redouble their efforts for early restoration of the highway, so as to ensure passage of the stranded passengers on either side of the highway. He said that to further speed up the snow clearance works and to overcome the slippery road conditions, JCBs, recovery vehicles and tippers by Mechanical Department Kargil shall be deployed so as to ensure smooth and hassle-free movement of vehicles.

Meanwhile, en route public delegations raised several issues and demands before the CEC like snow clearance from link roads, provision of water tankers, declaration of ration stores as snow bound area stores and other demands. The CEC while giving patient hearing to people’s issues assured them of the fulfilment of all their genuine concerns and demands.

Feroz Khan issued on spot directions to the concerned to ensure the availability of all essential services and commodities to the people, so that people do not face any difficulty in view of harsh weather conditions. He asked all the departments to be well equipped to deal with any kind of eventuality that might arise out of adverse weather situations. The CEC also called on the need to establish close coordination among the line departments for responding to the public grievances in a prompt and timely manner.

The CEC exhorted upon the divisional administration to redouble their efforts in providing all amenities to the people so that they do not suffer.

The CEC impressed upon the officers to be proactive and ensure that every possible facility is provided to the masses. He also asked the district and sectoral officers to personally monitor the field functionaries so that the people don’t face any inconvenience during winters.
