Srinagar, November 6: Taking a jibe on Congress party for labeling him as communal, Peoples Conference Chairman, Sajjad Gani Lone on Tuesday said it was Congress party which thrust gun upon peaceful nation like Kashmir after rigging 1987 elections.

Addressing the media after PC candidate, Junaid Azim Mattu got elected as the Mayor for Srinagar city; Lone said people of Kashmir are yet to come out of the “tornado” that Congress created after 1987 elections.

“How could they label anyone as communal. I didn’t know that lanes, drains and roads can also be communalized,” said Lone.

Terming them as dacoits of 1987, the PC Chairman said thirty years have passed but the people of Kashmir are yet to come out of the situation that Congress created in 1987.

Admitting of being an ally of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kashmir, Lone said why he should be taunted to be a BJP ally.

“I just have one question for them, they always taunt us that we belong to BJP yes BJP is our ally and their friend Omar Abdullah was their first ally while as the Madam was in alliance with them till June this year.  Out of these 70 years Congress ruled India for fifty years but who touched the heart of Kashmiri people,” he added.

He questioned as to why late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name was on top and why not that of Dr Manmohan Singh or Narsimha Rao of Congress party vis-à-vis Kashmir.

“Why not any PM from the Congress was named for winning hearts of Kashmiri people, why not Manmohan Singh why not Narsimha Rao. They should introspect rather than pointing their finger at everybody,” Lone said.

Taking a dig at PDP and NC for boycotting elections he said if these parties stayed away from election then how come some of their candidates emerged as winners after elections.

“I am happy because they were united in this election. I failed to understand as to from where the winning candidates emerged If NC and PDP had taken moral high stand on so called boycott in elections,” he questioned adding  they kept meeting and I am happy because they were united and even happier for ‘their defeat in these elections.’

Congratulating Mattu for getting elected Mayor of the Srinagar city, he said Junaid is a well educated young man and with him on the wheel, Srinagar would emerge as world class tourist destination.

Lone also applauded senior PC leader, Irfan Ansari, who too was in the press conference, for his ‘untiring efforts’ to ensure PC emerges victorious in Srinagar municipal polls.
