Srinagar, November 04: Expressing dismay over the administration’s handling of the situation in the aftermath of rains and snowfall for the last two days, PDP President and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today asked the Governor administration to gear up its resources more seriously to restore all basic services including power supply to the people at the earliest.

The former Chief Minister said as has been unfolding from the feedback she has received from the ground, no advance preparation for meeting winter challenges in the State, particularly Kashmir Valley, seems to have been made by the administration this year.  “It was unfortunate to see the whole of Srinagar city, including the essential services like hospitals, plunging into darkness following few inches of snow, not to speak of peripheral and rural area”, she said adding the administration should have prepared well in advance for the winter challenge, even when a precise weather forecast had come from the MeT Department in advance.

Mehbooba Mufti appealed the Governor, S P Malik to see to it that power supply, which people are complaining is in a mess this year, is properly monitored and the pace of completion of Alastaing and Rawalpora Grid stations, which her Government had planned to commission this year, is also ensured to better the power supply and if need be more power is drawn from the Northern Grid to meet the energy challenge in the coming months.

The PDP President also expressed sorrow over the huge losses suffered by the horticulture industry due to yesterday’s snowfall. She asked the State administration to assess the quantum of loss suffered by the horticulture industry which these days was in its peak. She also appealed the Central  Government to consider a package for the growers whose produce has been lost due to these extreme weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the PDP President directed all its legislators and senior leaders to be available in their respective areas for assisting people in coming out of these difficult times.
