Budgam, Oct 23: Dozens of residents of Bemina carried out a candlelight vigil against the recent Kulgam killings and slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on senior Hurriyat leader and Chairman Tehreek-e-Wahdat Nisar Hussain Rather here on Monday evening.

Amidst pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering, protesters took out a rally from Khomeini Chowk Bemina to Garipora and vice versa, an eye witness said.

While holding candles in their hands, protesters condemned the killing of civilians in Kulgam, which happened on last Sunday.

Earlier, after the gunfight, seven civilians were killed due to a blast that occurred in Laroo area of Kulgam district.

Meanwhile, protesters in Bemina were demanding release of Rather who was slapped with PSA and shifted to Kot Balwal jail Jammu in last week.

According to reports, Rather, a septuagenarian leader and a resident of Bemina, was apparently arrested after posters praising Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani surfaced during Muharram processions in several parts of Kashmir.
