SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police is going to organize a State level Jeshn-e-Dal & Shikara Race-2018 under Civic Action Programme (CAP) from 23rd to 25th October at SKICC, Dal Lake Srinagar here.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that it has been the endeavour of the J&K Police to maintain good relations with the public and over the years it has been organizing various programmes under CAP to achieve this goal.

“J&K Police is keen on organizing various sports activities for the youth. Events like these will generate tremendous interest among the youth, which in turn help in channelizing the young minds in a positive direction. Furthermore, it also helps in spreading awareness among people about the importance of staying fit through various physical activities,” said the JKP Spokesman.

“The event is open for all and people interested in participating can register themselves at the Registration Counter, established at the SKICC Srinagar (the venue for the event). Furthermore, they can also collect the Entry Forms from the Sports Section, Armed Police Headquarters, Batmaloo, during the office hours. This is in addition to the on-spot registration that can be done on the 1st day of the event itself,” he added.

He further said: “The main attraction for the participants would be the Cash Prizes under various categories amounting to ₹3.00 lacs which would be distributed among the winners in various events in addition to individual trophies, medals and certificates. Display of Cultural programmes during the event will also be a great attraction during this event.”

“Apart from various schools/colleges, invitations have also been extended to students through the Education Department and J&K State Sports Council. Elaborate arrangements in terms of transportation, accommodation, refreshment etc for these participants have also been made,” he said.

“We are optimistic of getting an overwhelming response to the event and further appeal to the people of Kashmir, through the apparatus of print & electronics, especially the youth to participate in full strength. In the Jeshn-e-Dal & Shikara Race-2018, the youth of Kashmir valley will get an opportunity to take part in Dragon Boat Race, Water Polo, Kayaking and Canoeing events of water Sports and Shikara Marathon Race,” the spokesman added.

The spokesman said that the main motive behind organizing such events is to groom the talent of youth and enable them to take part at state/national /international level competitions. It will also help us in weaning away youth from anti social activities and drug abuse besides bridging the gap between police and public. “During the current year, J&K Police has organized 16th J&K Police Martyrs’ Memorial Football Tournament-2018 at Srinagar from 20th to 30th July-2018 besides “Run for Peace” at Golf Course Srinagar on 2nd September-2018.”

“As a part of such an initiative, Jeshn-e-Dal & Shikara Race-2018 is being conducted from 23rd to 25th October-2018 at SKICC, Dal Lake Srinagar in which the following events will be conducted: Shikara Race (Men), Swimming long distance (Open for men), Swimming short distance (for Men), Swimming short distance (for School Boys), Dragon Boat Race (for Men), Dragon Boat Race (for Women), Dragon Boat Race (for Boys), Dragon Boat Race (for School Girls), Canoe Polo (open for men), Kayaking (for Men), Kayaking (for Women), Canoeing (for Men), Canoeing (for women) and Water Polo,” the spokesman added.
