Congress wins Budgam’s single ward

Budgam, Oct 20: Congress candidate from Budgam’s lone ward, which witnessed polling in the first phase of Urban Local Bodies polls on October 08, defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival by a margin of 27 votes, election officials said.

Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Congress secured victory in the ward 5 — Bazar Mohallah, which falls in Budgam Municipal Committee.

Bhat got 68 votes while BJP candidate Nisar Ahmad Najar won 41 votes.

Bazar Mohalla ward had recorded 16.97 percent voting with 109 votes polled out of 642.

Pertinetly, Budgam district is divided into six municipalities, having a total of 72 wards. In absence of candidates and opponents 71 wards did not see any polling.

Meanwhile, while talking to media persons, Congress winning candidate said that he focus would be on developmental issues of the township.
