Congress party gets majority in two municipal committees in Bandipora in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 20: The Congress party on Saturday emerged as winner in two municipal committees in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district in recently concluded urban local body polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials said that the Congress party won 12 municipal wards out of 17 wards in Bandipora municipal committee as the counting of votes concluded here.

“While as BJP won three wards in which one was declared elected as unopposed from MC Bandipora. Independent candidates won two wards out of total 17 wards in MC Bandipora,” they said.

According to officials, in Hajin municipal committee Congress had won 10 wards unopposed as no other party including the BJP could not file any nominations from 13 wards. “3 wards remained vacant.”

In Sumbal MC, Independent candidates won 8 municipal wards out of which two had been elected unopposed. “The Congress party won 5 municipal wards from Sumbal MC while BJP remained unsuccessful in winning any of the wards from the municipal committee from 13 designated wards, ” officials said.
