Srinagar, Oct 17: High altitude areas of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, including the health resorts of Sonamarg and Naranaag, received fresh snowfall, leading to the closure of 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway on Wednesday.

Reports said the higher reaches, including Sonamarg, Nilghart, Baltal and Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh highway received fresh snowfall early Wednesday morning.

They said that Drass and Minamarg also received fresh snowfall.

An official said that traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway was temporarily suspended from both sides as precautionary measure in view of snowfall in Sonamarg and Zojila areas.

He said about 4 inches of snow had accumulated on the highway at Zojilla Pass. “The highway will be re-opened if there is no more snowfall,” he said.
