SRLM forms 30500 SHGs in JK: Dir SRLM

SRINAGAR OCTOBER 17: Director J&K State Rural Livelihood Mission, Abdul Rashid War today informed that JK State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), commonly known as UMEED, has so far formed more than 30,500 Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the State.

The Director revealed the information during an inaugural session of the workshop organized regarding the implementation of financial literacy.

He said that JKSRLM which is an extension of Union level programme, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), focuses on women empowerment through various programmes including financial inclusion and sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing the gathering, the Director said that financial schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) are targeted towards poor sections of the society and it is important to create awareness among Self Help Groups about these schemes so that they could deliver better at gross root level.

He also said that same kind of workshop would be organized in Jammu division also to sensitize the RSETIs, Financial Literacy Counselors and lead District Managers of Banks who would act as Master Trainers for their respective districts for further training to Financial Literacy Counselors Resource Persons. He further said the purpose of providing financial education amongst poor community is to make them aware to avail benefits of the developmental schemes.

He added that the financial literacy is one of the important strategies to keep SHGs’ and households’ aware about relevant financial services and to build their utilization capacity at the same time.

Director General, National Academy of RUDSETI, R R Singh, Additional Mission Director Kashmir, Rifat Aftab, Senior Executive from Ministry of Rural Development, GOI, Anil Kumar Singh, State Director RSETIs, representative of RBI and NABARD, Director RSETIs, Lead District Managers, Financial Literacy Counselors, besides officers of JKSRLM were present on the occasion.
