SRINAGAR, OCT 14: The artwork submitted by various artists to JK Cultural Academy – Academy of Art, Culture, and Language for annual State Art Exhibition 2017 is yet to receive any recognition as the same has neither been awarded nor returned to the respective artists.

Interestingly, many of the young artists who participated in the said exhibition had financed their work themselves.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Iram, a fine art student, said: “The sculpture I made was a result of my hard work. We have submitted our work in May 2017. It has been more than a year now but we did not hear anything from the organizers. This is really discouraging.”

“For framing my artwork, I had to spend all my pocket money. We also bore the cost of transporting our artworks to the respective department. Despite managing everything of our own, we are still waiting for the results,” said another fine art student adding that they were never informed about the further process of the exhibition.

Not only students many senior artists too have the same tale to narrate and are discouraged by the attitude of government towards artists.

Talking to the Kashmir Images, an official of Exhibition section, JK Cultural Academy – Academy of Art, Culture and languages said, “Currently all the artwork is in Jammu. It was supposed to be evaluated in presence of both Chief Minister and Governor. Since the downfall of the PDP -BJP government here in Jammu and Kashmir, the process has been put on halt. We will return the artwork to their respective artists as soon it is evaluated.”
