Wildlife Department lodges FIR as tranquilized bear killed by mob in Budgam

Budgam, Oct 10: In an unfortunate incident, a tranquilized bear was beaten to death by a mob after it injured four persons in Shunglipora village of Budgam district on Tuesday.

A Wildlife official told Kashmir Images that angry people killed the bear after it was tranquilized.

“We fired tranquilizing darts at the animal and injected 26 ml drugs but people killed the bear after it went unconscious.”

A medical official indentified the injured persons as Manzoor Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad, Sajad Ahmad and Abdul Rashid. “They were taken to Primary Health Centre Khag for the treatment.”

A three-minute video also surfaced on the social media which shows many people beating the bear repeatedly with sticks amid hue and cry.

Meanwhile, Wildlife department has lodged an FIR into the killing.

The forester, Mohammad Yousuf, told Kashmir Images that that they have lodged an FIR against “enraged mob” for killing the wild animal.

He said that some forest officials rushed to the spot after receiving a call from Khag police station about the presence of a bear.

“We successfully tranquilized the bear that had climbed a tree but people killed it. Even a rescue vehicle reached the spot,” Yousuf told Kashmir Images adding, “Now, we have lodged an FIR at Khag police station against the enraged mob.”
