A spokesman of Hurriyat-M said Mirwaiz was placed under detention at his Nigeen residence.

A contingent of the police arrived at Mirwaiz’s residence and placed him under house arrest, the spokesman said.

He said Mirwaiz had planned a rally from Jamia Masjid to Noorbagh after Friday prayers against the killing of a civilian in Noorbagh.

Taking to Twitter, Mirwaiz wrote, “cycle of state killing and repression continues. Muslims barred for the second consecutive week and fifteenth this year from offering Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid, leadership and activists placed under detention, CASO continues. Meanwhile state claims establishing democracy at grass root level.”
