SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 26: Stressing for quality education, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today said desired outcomes in education sector could only be achieved after the standard of education is radically improved.
The Advisor Ganai expressed these views in an annual day function of Amira Kadal, Higher Secondary School, organized here at Tagore Hall.
The function organized in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language was attended by Chairperson, JK Board of School Education Veena Pandita, Director School Education Kashmir G N Itoo, State Project Director SAMAGRA Shiksha Tufail Mattoo, Secretary Cultural Academy, Aziz Hajni and other concerned officers.
Reflecting on quality of specific subjects taught in the schools, the Advisor said over the period of time, the quality of teaching subjects primarily Science and Mathematics has enigmatically gone down. He said the trend needs to be restrained and it could only be achieved with a conscious effort from various stakeholders, especially teachers, academicians, intellectuals, and of course the Education Department.
Appreciating the value of holding annual events, the Advisor said such type of functions is necessary as they greatly boost the confidence of performing students, besides providing them with the requisite platform to express themselves. He urged the concerned to prepare an “incentive scheme” under which certain amount could be provided to each school for organizing such type of functions.
Emphasizing on the need to adopt innovative ways for creating funds for public educational institutions, Ganai said generally the institutions’ bank on Government to carry out various works, including infra-development to other social or academic activities in their institutes. However, it would be better that instead of relying on others, the stress is laid on “self-reliance”, the Ganai said.
He said that the Government is working to develop such type of mechanism for the schools and colleges, and creating an “alumni fund”, in each school is a step in the same direction.
Deliberating on the issue, the Advisor said Government may formulate a mechanism with which alumni of the specific school or college can contribute to the school or college, which could be used for the same institution. He said initially the fund may be with Directorate, but after developing a proper mechanism it could be transferred to the designated institute.
He said that in this regard a transparent system needs to be created, where every fund will be marked and registered so that the person who transfers the money knows what has happened to his transferred amount.
Urging teachers, students to work for better future, the Advisor said the world is moving into fourth industrial revolution and by staying updated and adapting the new technologies like 3-D printing, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, the lives of people could really become easy and comfortable.
He said some technology like autonomous vehicles like driverless cars, or drones are already in vogue in some countries and soon they will become part of everyone’s life.
The Advisor added that a decade later, every house may have a robot to do domestic chores, which will greatly help the working women as it is quite cumbersome for them to slog out first at work and then do their house chores as well.
He said, therefore, it is important that everyone embraces the technology rather than ignoring it.
Later on, Advisor awarded Rs 25,000 to a qawali group as a token of appreciation for their phenomenal performance, and also distributed certificates among meritorious students.
