Kupwara, Sep 11: Thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the last rites of Lolab man who was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Khanyar in Srinagar last night.

The deceased, Abdul Ahad Ganaie, a resident of Lalpora Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, was fired upon while he was driving his car and had died on spot. His body was later taken to police control room Srinagar for legal and medical formalities.

Ahad has pursued PhD from Aligarh Muslim University and was presently working as a teacher at a private institution in Srinagar.

The father of Abdul Ahad has sold more than half of his property to pay for his education. “All went in vain,” rued a neighbour of the deceased.

Ahad was laid to rest at his native graveyard at Lalpora Lolab. Thousands of people took part in his last rites.
