Tangmarg, September 10: A cricket tournament for both boys and girls was conducted by Indian Army at Tangmarg; which was first of its kind in the area as it saw active participation of the girls with full support rendered by their parents for their wards, said an army spokesman on Monday.
He said that the tournament was organized to usher in communal harmony and to inculcate sportsman spirit amongst the youth of Tangmarg Tehsil
“A total of 16 boys teams and 04 girls teams from various villages of far flung and remote areas of Tangmarg Tehsil participated in the tournament on league cum knock-out basis. The boys final was played between Warpora and Zaspora and girls final was pitched between Rahat ghar and Goodwill School, Ziran in which all the finalist teams contested with great josh and enthusiasm in front of huge gathering of local populace, employees of all nearby offices and various govt dignitaries in which Warpora and Raahat Ghar won respectively,” the army spokesman said adding that the event culminated with distribution of prizes amongst the winners and runners up of the tournament.
