Khelo India: DDC declares open sports tournament at Banihal

RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 10: District Development Commissioner, Showkat Aijaz Bhat today declared open a sports tournament here at Higher Secondary School Banihal organised under integrated youth engagement programme – “Sports for Peace and Development” under Khelo India initiative.

The sports events being organised across the district witness competitions in Football, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Cricket, Athletics and rural sport Wrestling.

Inaugural event was attended by SSP, Ramban, Anita Sharma, SDM, Ramsoo, Viqar Gari, SDM Banihal, Zaheer Abass, CEO, A.H Fani, DYSSO, Sukhdev Raj Sharma, Principal GDC Banihal and officers of various other departments.

The DDC interacted with the participants and urged the youth to actively participate in the sports activities for their all-round development.

Listing the sports events being organised under Khelo India, the DDC said that these days youth are seen playing on the playfields across the district which reflects that the launch of integrated youth engagement programme under “Sports for Peace and Development” has achieved desired results.  He said district administration is providing opportunities to youngsters of different age groups to play games in a congenial atmosphere.

“The initiative aims to teach the potential youth the fundamentals and the basics of their favourite sport and provide them a place to start with” he added.

The first day witness a cricket match which was won by Changloo Panchyat team by defeating Doligam Panchyat Cricket Club.

Amir Wani scored 41 runs for the winning team. In a Kho-Kho match girls of Gund Adalkot won the competition by defeating Tethar Panchyat.
