DDC inaugurates sports tournament under “Khelo India”

RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 07: To promote sports culture amongst the youth, a tournament was today inaugurated here at Gool under Khelo India “Sports for Peace and Development” an integrated youth engagement programme of Government of India.

District Development Commissioner (DDC), Showkat Aijaz Bhat declared the event open which witnessed Under 17 Boys Volleyball and under 14 Girls Kho Kho competitions at the local Government Higher Secondary School (GHHS) Gool.

Also present were SSP Ramban Anita Sharma, ACR Vevaik Puri, SDM Gool Pankaj Bagotra, CEO, A.H Fani, DYSSO, Sukhdev Raj Sharma, ALC Ramban Rakesh Arora, Tehsildar Gool, Principal of the host school.

In Volley ball match Gool A team won by defeating Gool B team, while in Kho Kho competition Girls High School Gool team won by defeating Girls Higher secondary team by 4 points.

Earlier, addressing the participants, the DDC applauded the students for their efforts and encouraged them to make the best use of such platform to display their sports talent. He laid emphasis on the importance of games and sports for their overall development. He advised the youth to take active part in the sports and create a niche at State and national levels.

He said that the Khelo India scheme has been launched with the objective to channelize the energy of the youth in right direction, imbibe in them leadership qualities and team spirit so that they can contribute in economic and social development of the country.

He assured the participants that district administration will arrange resources for creating better sports facilities in the schools. He   announced to provide table tennis for GHHS Gool.
