Srinagar, Sep 03: Hizbul Mujahideen supremo and United Jihad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin on Monday said that the Indian agencies were targeting his children and relatives to prevent him from taking part in the “freedom struggle”.

In a statement to the press, Salahuddin said such attempts would neither affect his role in the “freedom struggle” nor would they create any trust deficit between the people and the leadership.

“I am away from my family for past thirty years and the nation knows that none of my family members has had any association with the financial matters of the struggle,” the statement quoted Salahuddin as having said.

He also condemned his “character assassination” by the agencies.

Salahuddin appealed to the Kashmir Bar Association and the civil society to carry out an independent inquiry into the assets owned by his family.

“I appeal them to compare these assets with those owned by my family thirty years ago so that everything is crystal clear,” he said.
