Workshop on District Disaster Management Plan begins in Leh

LEH, AUGUST 30: A two-day training /workshop on “Updation of District Disaster Management Plan” under CSS on Sustainable Reduction in Disaster Risk begins in the DC Conference Hall Leh today.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang chaired the first day training. The workshop is organised by Organized by IMPA, Srinagar. Dy SP SDRF Sonam Dorjey, Headquarter Assistant DC Office Leh, Mohd Sharif, Officer from Airforce Leh, HOSs and representatives from various departments, representatives from civil society, NGOs and Jawans of SDRF Leh attended the first day training.

Addressing the workshop, ADC, Leh Moses Kunzang appreciated IMPA, Srinagar headed by Dr G.M Dar Associate Professor Centre for Disaster Management & Environmental Studies (IMPA) for organizing this vital workshop at Leh and strongly urged upon the participants to take the workshop seriously as their valuable input and participation will prove very beneficial in updation of District Disaster Management Plan of Leh.

Sharing the experiences of 2010 flash flood and recent flash flood at Saboo village, ADC Leh said that such training/workshops on regular basis are very important to improve our disaster management plan.

Talking about the District Disaster Management Plan of Leh, ADC, Leh said that district administration Leh is conducting mock drills at district, sub-divisional and black levels time to time and said that Leh is the only district in J&K State which has permanent emergency operation centre situated in the office complex of the Council Secretariat and district administration is trying hard to equip this centre with all required facilities.
